Waste Piling Treatment
Challenges.
- Drilling in the field is performed with zero discharge to sea of any drilling waste, treated or untreated
- A solution which minimised the transportation of drilling waste onshore for treatment and/or disposal was required
- Disposal via cuttings reinjection (CRI) required solid and fluid waste to be treated, reducing total petroleum hydrocarbon to a level in line with legislation
Solution.
TWMA designed, manufactured and operated an advanced waste handling, containment and treatment solution, at source, to collect and treat all forms of drilling waste including drill cuttings, piling waste, slops, cement and excess fluids onsite.
TWMA utilised its drilling waste handling, containment and treatment solution, Bulk Transfer, with its RotoMill® thermal processing technology for treatment of the non-aqueous based drilling fluid (NAF) drill cuttings.
Value.
$24M
Worth of base oil recovered and reused in the drilling mud system.
$28M
Saved due to elimination of vessel costs.
2.5M
Man hours LTI free.
1.25M
Lifts avoided due to elimination of 125,000 skips.
Since 2013, TWMA has handled a total of 2.5m bbl of drill cuttings with 173,000MT NAF drill cuttings processed at source with the RotoMill®.
The project outputs are as follows:
- 178,674bbl base oil recovered and reused in the drilling mud system
- 81,413MT recovered solids diverted from landfill with an average total petroleum hydrocarbon of 0.1%
- 163,740bbl recovered water reinjected with an average oil on water of 15ppm
