Pierre-Marie Hinden shares his valuable insights and wealth of experience in a recent Q&A:

18 October 2024

  1. Name, job title and length of time working for TWMA.

Pierre-Marie Hinden, UAE General Manager, 12 years.

  2. As one of TWMA’s longest-serving team members, can you share your journey with the company?

I joined TWMA because they were a growing international company with innovative technology, and the role provided a great opportunity to apply the mechanical engineering skills I gained at university. I started as a Project Engineer in 2012, when we secured our first contract. At the time, we were just a team of 4 , and now we’ve expanded into an organisation of 386 across all our UAE operations. My career has transitioned from project roles to account management, and today I proudly serve as General Manager for the UAE. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited for what the future holds.

  3. What are your key responsibilities at TWMA?

I oversee TWMA’s UAE operations, ensuring that we consistently deliver first-class service to our clients while taking care of our people and prioritising environmental sustainability.

  4. What’s it like to work for TWMA in the Middle East?

Being part of TWMA’s Middle East team is incredibly rewarding. We have a strong, dedicated group that consistently goes above and beyond. We're in a phase of significant growth, which comes with its challenges, but the creativity and commitment of our team make them manageable. I’m proud to be a part of this journey. With 6 live operations, soon to be 9, and our local manufacturing and project capabilities driving the expansion of our asset fleet to meet new contracts, the work is varied, demanding, but always fulfilling.

  5. Tell us about some major projects you’ve worked on and impact you have made?

The introduction of RotoMill in the UAE has been a game changer for our clients—environmentally, commercially, and operationally. By processing drill cuttings offshore, we've eliminated the need for around 170,000 KM of shipping and recovered $70 million in base oil value that would have otherwise been lost. These results have made a significant impact on both our clients' bottom line and emissions profile.

Recently, we secured an exciting project with a new client operating in an environmentally protected and hazardous area. This presented unique challenges, which we tackled through close collaboration with the client, ensuring full compliance and safeguarding the environment. We upgraded our equipment to IECEx and +55 standards, requiring specialised parts and additional training for our team to meet the strict requirements.

  6. You’re about to launch a significant recruitment drive in the Middle East. How do you hope this will shape TWMA’s future in the region?

With this recruitment drive, we plan to expand our team to around 500 members, up from our current 386. This will solidify TWMA’s position as the leading drilling waste management specialist in the UAE. Looking ahead, I hope to see our expertise and sustainable solutions expand to other GCC countries, showcasing not only our achievements in the UAE but our global success.

  7. Tell us a bit about life outside of TWMA.

I’m married with a one-year-old son, and I enjoy long-distance running and CrossFit. As a proud Frenchman, I’m passionate about rugby, though I haven’t played in a while. I do like to play the occasional round of golf. I studied in France before moving to the UAE 15 years ago. It’s a great place to live and do business, which is why I’ve made it my long-term home.
